Meet your beginner tap dance teacher, Megan
I didn’t grow up dancing. I started as an adult beginner, so I know exactly what it feels like to stand in a studio for the first time with no idea what your feet are supposed to be doing, wondering if you're ever going to get it.
You will get it, but not all at once. It comes together in stages and, pretty soon, you’ll be mastering things you never thought you were capable of.
My job is to break it down until it clicks, using teaching styles designed for adult beginners. I’ve honed my approach over 30+ years, including training with world-renowned artists in New York and online, teaching at leading Victorian institutions, and choreographing for film, TV and major events.
If you’ve been hovering on the edge of trying tap, consider this your sign.
What to expect:
-
A warm up
Class starts with a thorough warm-up to get your mind and body switched on and ready to go, done together in a circle rather than facing a mirror.
-
Technique
Next, you’ll learn new steps or work on ones you’re still getting the hang of. You’ll walk through techniques that make each step feel easier, learn the terminology, rhythm and musicality behind it, and have plenty of time to practice.
-
Travelling steps
Now you really get the cardio going, combining new steps you’ve been working on with steps you’ve already mastered. Instead of going one by one across the floor, everyone moves together as a group, so no one feels exposed.
-
Routines
Finally, you put everything you’ve learnt into practice. You’ll learn how to transition from one step to another, and you’ll end up with a complete dance routine. Such an achievement.
