What to expect when you come to a beginners dance class
When you arrive at the studio, say hi to the guys at reception, but no need to check in there, just head around to the communal area on the ground floor outside Studio 1 and 2.
Bathrooms and changing rooms are upstairs if you need them.
Your teacher will come out and say hi when she’s finished the class she is teaching.
A typical class includes:
A warm up
You’ll be lead through a thorough warm up to get your mind and body ready to go!
Technique
Your teacher will explain new tap steps, or go through steps you’re still working on, you’ll be taken through how to execute them, the technique to make the steps feel easier, you’ll learn tap terminology, rhythms and musicality. You’ll also have plenty of time to practice everything you’ve been working.
Across the floor
Across the floor work really gets the cardio going, you’ll be combining new steps you’ve been working on along with steps you’ve already mastered.
Routines
Where you start putting everything that you’ve learnt into practice, you’ll learn how to transition from one step to another, you’ll end up with a few complete routines. Such an achievement!!
Meet Megan – principal tap dance teacher

I’m passionate about sharing my love for tap dance with others.
My teaching style is unique. I learnt tap dance as an adult beginner so I have first hand experience in learning dance as an adult and I bring this to every class.

-
No you don’t, you can just wear any pair of lace up shoes with a leather sole, or wear your runners.
-
We prefer tap shoes with a low heel, so either the men’s lace up style or the ladies strap and buckle, preferably in black. Our preferred brand is Capezio, but Bloch are also good.
-
The Capezio store in Elsternwick, or any Bloch Dance store should be able to help you out.
-
Definitely not, we don’t teach children, only adults
-
Once our classes start for the year they just keep going through until early December, we don’t stop for school holidays. The exception to this is our Beginners short courses which run for 6 weeks.
-
Yes please. Bookings ensure we know who is coming, in case there is a last minute change to the schedule for any reason. If you do happen to forget to book, you can still join in though, just check that the class is running before you turn up.
-
You can, but, because the classes work as a progressive course of learning we add to the repertoire and routines each week. You’ll have a better experience if you can attend on a regular basis, once a week is fine, twice a week is even better.

Booking a class is simple, head to the book a class page here and the system will take you through the booking process. You can either pay for single classes (or multiple single classes) or a 10 week pack (offering a 10% discount and make up classes if you need them), which ever suits you best.
